In 2009 I was contacted by Marek Wysoczyński - General Manager of the Biuro Promocji Kultury regarding the Smile Project. This is a continuing collection of autographed photos and autographed ‘smiley’ drawings that are used to bring joy to the lives of sick children in hospitals around the world.
I was so taken by the simplicity and joyousness of the project that I began to write the smiles that make the Smiley Cards you have seen here today.
I promptly sent them to Marek thinking they would make postcards that could be used to raise money for the project and gave them to Marek with my blessing. He told me the first copy of my ‘smiles’ has been housed in the first Polish (and the first European) Autograph Museum, in the heart of Gdansk Shipyard where Solidarnosc(Solidarity) was born in 1980 by Lech Walesa to make Poland part of the free world. This in itself is an honour.
The ‘Smiles’ though would not leave me alone. They kept pushing me to find a way to have them reach others and what you see here is their next format.
The cost of these cards is to be put back into printing more and I receive no monetary benefit from the sale of these cards.
They are designed to give away. To pass a smile to anyone you think might need it, to spread joy out from yourself to others across the world. They can be given as a pack or individually – it is totally up to you.
I would love to hear how your ‘Smiles’ are received and how you have used them. Please feel free to email me with your stories.
Wishing you limitless smiles in your life,
Melody
